“Acting” training program started in 1992 at the Yakutian branch of the Moscow Art Theatre School. The opening of the branch was caused by the need to train highly qualified specialists in the field of theatre art for the Republic. The first graduates of the Yakutian branch of the Moscow Art Theatre School were fully employed to the acting group of the State Academic Russian Drama Theatre. Nowadays they are leading actors of the theatre.
In 2000 the Yakutian branch of the Moscow Art Theatre School was restructured as a Department of Acting and Directing of the Arctic State Institute of Culture and Arts.
In 2015 the Department of Acting and Producing merged with the Department of Choreography.
Nowadays the Department of Theatre Arts extents its cooperation. In 2020 the department enrolled students based on a special public order of the National drama theatre named after Pavel Kuchiak of the Republic of Altai and the National music and drama theatre named after Victor Kok-oola of the Republic of Tyva.
Within “Priority-2030” the academic and strategic leadership program the Department implements such creative and theatre projects as “Mapping of a new theatre landscape” in 2022; “Ascention on the Ys-Symer” in 2023 – as part of the project “The Song of the Flying Arrow” was staged, a play based on the epics of the Altai, Tyva and Yakut peoples.
Graduates of the Department are employed at theatres all over the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). They play on stages of the Sakha Drama Theatre named after Oyunski, the State Academic Russian Drama Theatre named after Pushkin, the Olonkho Theatre, the Young Spectators’ Theatre, the Nyurba state portable theatre, the Neryungri republican puppet and drama theatre.
There are curricular performances that implemented within the study program. Performances of graduating students of the 4th year of education has been staged and prepared for further release under the leadership of Andrey Savvich Borisov.
These performances will be included in the repertoire of the Institute and will be released during the academic year, as well as tours to schools in Yakutsk and regions of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) will be organized as a reporting and career guidance counseling of the Department.
