Training in Acting in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) began in 1992 at the Yakut branch of the V.N. Nemirovich-Danchenko Studio School (University) at the Chekhov Moscow Art Theater. The opening of the branch was caused by the need to train highly qualified personnel in the field of theatrical art for the republic. The first graduates of the Studio School branch were fully accepted into the acting troupe of the State Academic Russian Drama Theater. Today they are the leading actors of the theater.
In 2000, with the foundation of the Arctic State Institute of Culture and Arts, the branch of the Studio School was transformed into the Department of Acting and Directing. The Department of Acting and Directing was a separate structural unit of the Arctic State Institute of Culture and Arts, and since September 2015 it has merged with the Department of Choreographic Art into the Department of Theatrical Art. The department expands the boundaries of its cooperation. In 2020, students were accepted by the special order of the National Drama Theater. Pavel Kuchiyak, the Altai Republic and the National Musical and Drama Theater named after Victor Kok-ool, Republic of Tyva.
As part of the Academic Strategic Leadership Program "Priority 2030", the department implements theatrical and creative projects such as "Mapping a new theatrical landscape" in 2022. "Ascent of the Us-Sumer", 2023, during which a performance based on the epics of the Altai, Tuvan and Yakut peoples "Song of the Flying Arrow" was staged.
Graduates of the department are distributed among the theaters of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). They play on the stages of the Sakha Academic Theater named after P.A. Oyunsky, the State Academic Russian Drama Theater named after A.S. Pushkin, the Olonkho Theater, the Young Spectator Theater, the Nyurbinsky State Mobile Drama Theater, the Neryungrinsky Republican Actor and Puppet Theater.
The preparation of educational performances continues within the framework of the academic disciplines of the special cycle. Work is underway on the production and further distribution of graduation performances of the 4th year, group AI-15, artistic director Andrey Savvich Borisov:

These performances will be included in the repertoire of the AGIKI and will gather the audience around them during the school year, as well as tours to schools in Yakutsk and uluses of the republic will be organized as a reporting and career guidance work of the department.
